The bendix, also known as the clutch one-way bearing, is an important transmission component in motorcycles. It is located between the engine and the transmission and is primarily used to control the power transfer between the clutch and the transmission system.
The main function of the bendix is to allow power from the engine to be transmitted in one direction to the transmission while preventing reverse torque from being transmitted back to the engine, reducing inertia and related mechanical shocks during deceleration. When the rider decelerates or releases the throttle, the bendix automatically disengages, allowing the engine to rotate freely without affecting the vehicle's deceleration. However, when the rider accelerates, the bendix effectively transfers the engine's power to the transmission, propelling the motorcycle forward.
The bendix typically consists of two cylindrical bearings, an inner bearing connected to the crankshaft, and an outer bearing connected to the clutch or transmission. The rolling elements, such as balls or rollers, between the inner and outer bearings allow free rotation in one direction while providing resistance in the opposite direction, enabling one-way power transmission.
